One of the most beautiful things about the Piano is that it can combine beautifully sound and silence. Bgudna in his Attended Only by Birds reminds us once again of these. By now, and this is only the fourth review I made, you already know I love piano pieces. But opposed to the sumptuous sounds delivered by Dmitry Evgrafov, Bgudna chooses to strip the music to its bone.

Attended Only by Birds is a remarkable piece, with an astounding coherence, in terms of rhythmic choices, like syncopated phrases or if you prefer like a dialogue between two old friends, that know each other so well, they seem only one person. Carefully talking, almost like a chanting. And all of this wrapped in a madrigal context, you feel transported to the countryside, where nature imposes its own sounds. The name of the ep is Attended Only by Birds but I would risk saying that it could be called Bird Songs for People to Listen To. Such is the delicacy in playing the piano, and the choosing the notes.

The first track Little Meetings is my favorite because, sets the mood so well, that since the first note you are immediately transported to this dawn scenario of peaceful existence.

By the amount of times I already listened to this ep I think it will probably be in my 2011 Top Ten list, but only time will tell. Support Bgudna by paying what you want for his ep and do yourself a favor, DON’T MISS IT.
